Data Transmission Options

Chromium History Chat gives you complete control over how your browsing history is processed. You have two options:

Option 1: Use Our Backend (Free)

When you use our free backend service:

• Your browsing history is sent to our backend server for processing
• We forward your data to OpenAI's API to generate responses
• We do not store, log, or save any of your browsing history
• Data is processed in real-time and immediately discarded after generating a response
• No persistent storage of your conversations or history entries

This option is completely free to use. We cover the API costs so you don't have to.

Option 2: Use Your Own API Key (Direct to OpenAI)

For maximum privacy and control, you can provide your own OpenAI API key:

• Your browsing history goes directly from your browser to OpenAI's servers
• Your data never touches our backend servers
• You have complete control over your API usage and costs
• You can monitor and manage your API usage through OpenAI's dashboard
• Your API key is stored locally in your browser and never shared with us

This option gives you the highest level of privacy, as your data completely bypasses our infrastructure.

What We Don't Do

• We do not save your browsing history
• We do not log your conversations or queries
• We do not track your usage patterns
• We do not sell or share your data with third parties
• We do not use your data for advertising or analytics
• We do not create user profiles based on your browsing behavior

Data Processing

When you use our backend service, your browsing history is:

• Received temporarily in memory for processing
• Sent to OpenAI's API to generate AI responses
• Immediately discarded after the response is generated
• Never written to disk or persistent storage

The entire process happens in real-time, and no data persists on our servers after your request is complete.

Your Control

You maintain complete control over your data:

• You can switch between backend options at any time
• You can revoke your API key access at any time
• You can uninstall the extension at any time
• All processing happens on-demand—we don't proactively process your history

Third-Party Services

When using our backend service, your data is processed by OpenAI's API. We recommend reviewing OpenAI's privacy policy to understand how they handle data:
