I studied merchant processing systems and payment gateways by following the full card-transaction lifecycle. The goal was not to memorize a payment diagram; it was to see where routing, interchange, and risk change the merchant’s outcome.
Electronic card payments are a relay, not a single event. This role gave me a systems-level view of the handoffs between merchants, gateways, processors, and networks—and the decisions that shape the result.
